Located on Spring Lake, our lake house has prime position in the Cotswold Water Park, one of the best kept secrets of Gloucestershire! One of 150 lakes in an area the size of Jersey, there’s so much to explore and something for everyone.

Like the name suggests, from the deck you can feed the resident ducks that are very friendly. And you may be lucky enough to spot woodpeckers, herons and great crested grebes as well.

Along with its lakeside setting one of the house’s greatest assets is the amount that there is to see and do nearby for families and young children.

Water sports, activities, great eateries, walking, history and culture are just some of the things you will find nearby. The fact that there’s a golf course, water sports centre, bike hire and routes, plus a choice of restaurants and pubs, within a short, scenic walk really sets it apart. Although, for most young families, the fact that the UK’s largest inland beach with a purpose built toddler paddling and playground area is within a 10-15 minute stroll is the icing on the cake.

Fire the Heart Retreats, situated on the Landings nearby, offers guests in-house rejuvenation therapies and treatments. Alternatively, treat yourself to private treatments and pampering at the house from Glo Pamper. A personal chef can also be arranged if required.

If you can tear yourselves away, Shelduck Lodge is ideally situated too for exploring the towns and villages of the beautiful Cotswolds region. The well-known quintessential English villages of Stow-on-the-Wold, Bibury, Bourton-on-the-Water, and Moreton-in-the-Marsh, are all within easy reach and make a great day out.

Cirencester, known as ‘The Capital of the Cotswolds', is 4 miles away, giving easy access to excellent shopping, restaurants, entertainment, ancient buildings and museums. Cheltenham (20 miles), the most complete regency town in England, is famous for its horse-racing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. At other times of year, Cheltenham hosts Festivals of Jazz, Classical Music, Science, Literature, Food & Drink.

Highgrove House, one of the homes of Prince Charles, is less than half an hour’s drive as is Westonbirt Arboretum, with its stunning new treetop walkway, the longest in the UK.

Appealing to children in particular, the nearby Cotswold Wildlife Park, the numerous attractions at Bourton-on-the-Water, and Cotswold Farm Park provide plentiful entertainment.

The cities of Bath, Bristol, Cheltenham and Oxford are all under an hour’s drive away.

Located just over an hour from London, it’s the ideal place for families or a group of friends to spend time together at any time of the year. And, for larger groups of up to 36 guests, Shelduck Lodge can be booked with our other Spring Lake houses, as they are all within 200 yards of each other.

2021-09-25 Michael S, Whitstable

"Lovely lodge in a excellent location."

2021-09-11 Emma M, Bournemouth

"My family and I really enjoyed our stay. The location was perfect-close to local farm shops and also the main town in Cirencester.. We were a little skeptical of being so close to the Lakeside Bar but we never heard any noise. Back of the property views are fantastic."

2021-08-21 Mark H, Totton

"What a great location. Our first stay in the Cotswolds and we loved it. Many thanks Staycation, really enjoyed the lodge on the lake."

2021-08-16 Naoya S, London

"Great location and great experience. We enjoyed a beautiful sunset from the terrace everyday. I would highly recommend it."

2021-07-23 David H, Steeple Claydon

"Excellent situation right on the lake and very close to the bar/restaurant and watersports base. This is a very peaceful location, provided you don't mind the powerboat racing up and down during the day and the occasional scream from participants! We enjoyed watching all the activity from the enclosed terrace. The house is very spacious and well-equipped. There is not a lot of parking and we were not always able to park directly outside the house. There is a small but nice childrens' play area very close by on site. be sure to book ahead if wanting to do any water-based activities whilst on holiday. Our grandchildren were disappointed that they couldn't get a slot on "our" lake, but there are many other companies and lakes nearby and we found some spaces, but with difficulty."

2021-07-19 Sarah C, England

"Shelduck Lodge is beautifully situated on Spring Lake. It's perfect for a family although some of the bedrooms are a little small for a group of adults with not much storage for clothes. The outside deck is idyllic and the bbq is easy to use. The kitchen is well-equipped and even has a brand new fridge. It was incredibly hot during our stay, so some curtains would be helpful in the sitting room to reduce the heat and glare. The customer service was hugely efficient and we were well looked after by everyone."

"Great place in a fab location in Cotswold Water Park. Would recommend this a a a good base for exploring the area."

2021-06-25 Patricia C, England

"Fantastic location. Really close and walking distance to South Cerney were there are lovely bars, cafes and restaurants. Good location to drive to with lots of nearby villages and towns. We loved Bradford on Avon. The property is in a perfect spot being next to the waterfront onsite bar/restaurant. Lovely to sit out in the afternoon and evening/night and look over the beautiful lake and feed the ducks and swans and listening to the Watersports with the kids giggling in delight as they went past....didn't take a swim in the lake ourselves but plenty did. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Yes parts of the property could do with a make over but it is on at a great price and didn't affect our enjoyment as we went for the lakeside views which were stunning."

2021-06-21 Mark H, Wimborne

"Stayed at the Shelduck Lodge for my birthday weekend, We had a fab time and would go again. The booking process was very simple. The lodge itself was easy to find in a superb location on the complex. Next door but one to a very good restaurant. There was a welcome hamper on arrival and the place was very clean in fact it was perfect. The only thing that took a while to sort was the wifi. The code is on a plastic key in the router! To be very critical for the money we paid the property needs a bit of investment. If you look long and hard at the property there are quite a few things that either need maintenance, repair or replacement."

2021-06-06 Dr. Jamie, London

"We spent a week at Shelduck Lodge in June and had a really wonderful stay. Throughout the booking process we had great communication with Charles at Staycation, who responded quickly and helpfully to queries. Upon arrival at the property we were met by Kevin, who was very friendly and helpful. He provided us with restaurant recommendations (one of which turned out to be our favourite place to eat on the whole trip), and was available by phone for further queries. The property itself was a lot more spacious than we had anticipated, with a large dining table inside, plenty of storage in the bedrooms and a huge master bedroom. The terrace, which was our main draw on booking this particular property was great, directly on the water with fab views. Sitting out there in the evening was one of the main highlights of the trip. It is worth noting that during the day there is constant noise from the speedboats from the water sports company. This didn't bother us and our 2 year old loved watching the boats, but we weren't really aware of this when booking and it meant you weren't allowed to swim in the lake while the boats were in operation (8 am - 8pm I think). We did have a paddle however at the side of the property which was refreshing! The property was presented very nicely, clean and tidy, and the welcome pack of essentials in the kitchen was a really nice touch. The decor felt homely rather than luxury, but with two small children this was fine. We requested a cot, highchair and stair gate and these were all installed on our arrival. The kitchen was really well stocked with crockery and glasses and it had all the equipment you would need for a holiday stay. We did have a slight issue with the fridge not feeling very cold. There were also a lot of bugs that enjoyed coming into the property from the lake, spiders, dragonflies etc, fun for the kids but maybe not for everyone! The location was great as a base for exploring the area and we had some wonderful trips to different parts of the Cotswolds. We would definitely come back, perhaps when the kids are old enough to take part in some of the great water sports on offer."

2021-05-30 Dr. Christopher, Kent

"A beautiful location, a lovely property, an amazing patio area on the lake for a good BBQ - we spent most of our time there. Charles is very helpful & prompt sorting any issues. We had a great time, made some lovely memories with other friends. Will definitely be back. Planning already..."

"Fantastic location. Really well equipped kitchen. Nice touch to have welcome essentials. Thank you."

2021-04-24 P Jaurre, England

"Great location and great property, although the place could do with an upgrade in terms of furniture across the whole property. We loved our stay as it was the first time my wife and I got away with our 9 month boy and we all really enjoyed staying here and would book again when we can."

2020-10-31 V Kennedy, England

"The location is great for walks, fishing and everything children love to do."

2020-10-10 J Slater, Shifnal

"The property was warm and welcoming and the setting on the water was superb."

2020-09-28 Tracey Davies, Gloucester

"The location was truly amazing right on the edge of the lake with fantastic views. The facilities within the property were more than adequate and Kevin the owner was very helpful. Despite being 2 doors down from a watersport facility, due to the excellent double glazing we could watch people having fun waterskiing and ridding on inflatables without it being intrusive. There is also the Lakeside Brasserie 2 x doors down from Shelduck Lodge which has friendly staff, great facilities and food and a fantastic place to sit on the decking overlooking the lake and having a nice glass of wine."

2020-09-25 B Treweek, London

"Extremely helpful and friendly."

2020-09-06 G Bruce, Southampton

"The lake views were stunning. The veranda and seating were comfortable."

2019-08-24 A McNeill, England

"A lovely house, in a beautiful setting. Kevin was very helpful at suggesting local, dog friendly places to eat - The Royal Oak in the village is worth a visit, and not too far to be able to walk there and back. The water activities are based just next door but you do need to book in advance. There are lots of places to visit within a one hour drive so all in all, a great place to stay!"

2019-08-05 A McLaren, Glasgow

"My Family and I had an amazing time in Shelduck Lodge at Spring Lake in The Cotswold Water Park. The Lodge is in an ideal location in the Park for lots of water sports and access to the beautiful surrounding countryside. The information on AirBnB regarding the lodge is very accurate and was helpful in planning the visit. Also the welcome we received from Kevin was a great start to the holiday. He also gave us some great recommendations of places to eat and things to see in the surrounding area. Dinner in The Royal Oak in South Cerney was a fantastic recommendation from Kevin. The Lodge was in great condition for our arrival and any questions we had during our stay were quickly and efficiently dealt with. This is a great location for anyone looking for a relaxing break, or someone looking for some action and adventure. 5 Stars."

2017-07-13

”We had an absolutely fantastic week in the Cotswolds. This property was just perfect for our needs and our 2 year old just loved feeding the ducks & swans every morning and watching the water skiers going past. There is so much to do in the area that a week just isn’t long enough. Also Kevin was the most helpful host who does everything he can to make you feel welcome and give lots of suggestions for things to do and good pubs to go to. We will be returning.”

2017-06-16 A Davies, Carmarthenshire

”Good value for money and great location. Lin & Charlie communicated everything and all was as expected.”

DAYS IN

For our top 10 reasons why the Cotswold Water Park is a great place for a family holiday, click here.

Along with its lakeside setting one of the house’s greatest assets is the amount that there is to see and do nearby for families and young children.

Within a minute’s stroll is the Lakeside Brassiere which boasts a family friendly sports bar, a relaxed family restaurant with a sun terrace overlooking the lake.

A fully air conditioned gym is located above the brasserie with a range of equipment. Should you be staying for a prolonged period a monthly membership can be purchased, but the gym also offers a highly reasonable single use fee option.

Within 50 metres of the lodge is a large children’s play area with climbing frame, monkey bars and fireman pole.

Lakeside Ski & Wake offer wakeboard and waterski lessons on the lake, plus sessions as well as fun rides for all the family on their ringos and other inflatables. These all prove irresistible to most families in the summer months, not least since thanks to a special skimmer board. From beginners to experts, everyone is welcome.

Next to the house is a small shingle beach area popular with the little ones for paddling. From the deck you can feed swans and ducks that are very friendly, but far enough away to stop little ones from feeling intimidated.

About a 5 minutes’ walk away, there’s a cable ski and a buzzing cafe bar reachable on pushchair friendly flat paths and roads.

Located opposite Spring Lake is the South Cerney Outdoor Education Centre which offers sailing, canoeing, and paddle boarding activities and courses.

Bike hire, angling and even the biggest inland beach in the UK are all within a mile or two.

The house is also within walking distance to the local village of South Cerney which offers a number of local amenities including a selection of pubs, takeaways, village shops, post office and a hairdressers.
