Put life on pause at Atherstone Farm Cottage, our charming home for a family of four or two couples.

Atherstone Farm Cottage is part of an old grade II listed farm that has been part of the Dillington Estate since at least 1725. Located in the tiny hamlet of Atherstone, the cottage is in a quiet, rural location and makes a great base for exploring the glorious Somerset countryside.

Undeniably tasteful and rustically chic, Atherstone Farm Cottage has character features including a thatched roof, stone floors, ancient oak beams and a wood burning stove set into a huge inglenook. Recently updated, luxurious style, modern facilities and lots little touches have been thoughtfully inserted.

Atherstone Farm Cottage benefits from a generous stone-floored living / dining room with a wood-burning stove, large flatscreen TV and comfy sofas - offering plenty of space for guests to relax and dine together. A fully equipped breakfasting kitchen and separate utility with washing facilities is next to the living area. Upstairs are two en suite bedrooms with very comfortable beds.

There is a delightful garden complete with outdoor seating and a barbecue, ideal for alfresco dining in the summer.

Its rural location makes Atherstone Farm Cottage a great escape for those looking for a countryside bolthole. There are plenty of pubs to walk or cycle to, things to see and do and convenient shopping in Ilminster nearby.

Surrounded by fields and woods that are accessible on foot and bicycle through the myriad of local country lanes and footpaths, bikes can be hired locally and dropped off at the cottage.

Nearby there are several pubs, some within walking distance – like the Barrington Boar – others a little further, but worth cycling or driving to, such as the Dinnington Docks or Lord Poulett Arms.

Barrington House, a National Trust house with gardens open to the public, is nearby, as is Dillington House. The Dennis Chinaworks in Shepton Beauchamp are also very close and worth a visit, for the tea rooms as much as anything else.

There are several local cider producers whose orchards and presses are worth seeing, Perry’s Cider in Dowlish Wake being one, and Julian Temperley’s cider and cider brandy distillery over at Burrow Hill another.

A little further away the beach at Lyme Regis and walks along the Jurassic coastline are 40 minutes or so to the south, and the Hauser and Wirth gallery near Bruton is 40 minutes or so to the east.

Atherstone Farm Cottage is found at one end of Atherstone Farmhouse (sleeps 10). The two are joined through lockable doors on the ground floor for the convenience of any groups wishing to rent both for up to 14 guests. Please see Atherstone Farmhouse & Cottage if you are interested in this option).

"A really delightful cottage! Beautifully clean, furnished and well equipped to a high standard. A lovely enclosed garden with steps up to large lawn (thinking children/dogs!) and sun trap courtyard! Many lovely walks in the estate and much info provided for places to visit/eat. A great getaway!"

2019-12-20 David, London

"Atherstone Cottage was amazing, quiet, clean and beautiful. We felt at home from the minute we walked through the door and had a very relaxed and enjoyable weekend stay. We particularly loved the log burner, the authentic stone floors, the original wooden doors, coupled with the modern luxurious decor. We can’t wait to come back for longer next time!"

2019-07-13 Karl, Surrey

"Atherstone Farm Cottage was a lovely place to stay. Set in the middle of nowhere down some narrow lanes, you really felt away from it all. Facilities were great, despite the farmhouse being rather old! The low beams won 4-2 in terms of days when I hit my head, but that just added to the charm. Check-in was easy (via a key safe), and they texted to say that we were able to check in early, which was a nice touch. Nearby pubs and restaurants were very nice, with particular mention of the Lord Poulett Arms and Pip’s Railway Cafe. (Don’t trek all the way to The Pig, though. We were disappointed). All in all we had a really good time and can recommend the cottage highly."
