The Bruern Estate

  • Cope Cottage’s west terrace, a suntrap, is redolent of the aromatic scents of the Mediterranean maquis – lavender, cistus, santolina, salvia, helychrysum and thyme baking on the hot stone.
  • Explore the gardens on The Bruern Estate including The Cutting Garden, Cottage Gardens, River Evenlode and local Cotswold Nature Trails.
  • Each cottage has its own set of gardening implements, which Guests are free to use, though most prefer to leave it to Bruern’s two full-time gardeners, who each year plant 10,000 new bulbs, with spectacular results come spring. The grounds aren’t particularly big (you’re never more than a five-minute walk from your cottage), which means that children can roam pretty much at will.
  • The owners are as passionate about the gardens at Bruern Cottages as they are about the cottages. Stroll through the Stable Yard with gravel paths and striped green croquet lawn, softened by beautiful flower borders. Continue through the arch into the old walled garden and guests find themselves in an atmosphere of space and grandeur. There is a wide lawn on your right, with the Long Border, twenty feet deep by a hundred and twenty feet wide. On the other side of the lawn is a procession of yew pillars along the path that are growing into an arched colonnade.
  • The Long Border is breathtaking in its sweep and scale. Behind it is a tunnel of wisteria and apple trees, trained on arches, which runs the length of the garden.
  • In contrast is the walk by the stream towards the Games Room, a lush, natural planting of shade loving plants.
    Enjoy!
