Get together at Atherstone Farmhouse & Cottage, a lovingly renovated 17th century farmhouse and adjoining cottage in the heart of Somerset countryside.

Sleeping 14 in six bedrooms, our grade II listed farmhouse and cottage offer a charming and comfortable bolthole for families and groups of friends. Beautifully refurbished to the highest standard, the property retains its original character with its thatched roof, stone floors, ancient oak beams and a wood-burning stove set into a huge fireplace. Or champion the new wooden hot tub in the garden!

There are two well equipped kitchen/dining rooms, one at either end of the property. Two utility rooms off the kitchen areas house laundry facilities.

Both ends of the farmhouse also have spacious living rooms with a wood-burning stove set into large stone fireplaces, large flatscreen TV and comfy sofas in each. There is a dining table in the open plan living space at the cottage end that can be extended to seat up to 14 so that everyone can dine together.

Atherstone Farmhouse & Cottage has six en suite bedrooms, one of which is on the ground floor for easy access. The accommodation is flexible with three of the six spacious bedrooms having zip and link beds to suit your party.

Outside there is a large private garden with an inviting wood fired hot tub complete with lights and an air-bubble system. Plus two terraces with outdoor furniture and barbecues for al fresco dining in the summer.

Its rural location makes Atherstone Farmhouse & Cottage a great escape for those looking for a countryside bolthole. There are plenty of pubs to walk or cycle to, things to see and do and convenient shopping in Ilminster nearby.

Surrounded by fields and woods that are accessible on foot and bicycle through the myriad of local country lanes and footpaths, bikes can be hired locally and dropped off at the farmhouse.

Nearby there are several pubs, some within walking distance – like the Barrington Boar – others a little further, but worth cycling or driving to, such as the Dinnington Docks or Lord Poulett Arms.

Barrington House, a National Trust house with gardens open to the public, is nearby, as is Dillington House. The Dennis Chinaworks in Shepton Beauchamp are also very close and worth a visit, for the tea rooms as much as anything else.

There are several local cider producers whose orchards and presses are worth seeing, Perry’s Cider in Dowlish Wake being one, and Julian Temperley’s cider and cider brandy distillery over at Burrow Hill another.

A little further away the beach at Lyme Regis and walks along the Jurassic coastline are 40 minutes or so to the south, and the Hauser and Wirth gallery near Bruton is 40 minutes or so to the east.

"A really delightful cottage! Beautifully clean, furnished and well equipped to a high standard. A lovely enclosed garden with steps up to large lawn (thinking children/dogs!) and sun trap courtyard! Many lovely walks in the estate and much info provided for places to visit/eat. A great getaway!" (Jane stayed at Atherstone Farm Cottage)

"Absolutely recommend this property to anybody looking to stay in the area. We were 6 couples and I scoured the country for a house with 6 equally nice bedrooms for a special weekend. It was beautifully set up and each couple had their own en suite! All the small touches like bath robes and towels for the hot tub were brilliant. The hosts were quick to respond and extremely accommodating with special requests. Thank you so much for making a 30th birthday weekend one to remember!"

2019-10-13 Cara, Bristol (Tripadvisor)

"Rented the farm house and cottage for a group of 15 ladies for my sisters 60th birthday celebration. I cannot recommend these properties highly enough. The farmhouse and cottage can be made into one by opening a door downstairs in between the two. Everything was absolutely perfect. Beautiful, comfortable and spotless! The bedrooms were all huge, stunning and very comfortable all having an en-suite except the master bedroom which had large bath in the bedroom and a toilet room. Lovely towels and bath robes provide for all of us. We had the use of two wonderful living rooms and 2 kitchens. Plenty of room for all 15 of us to sit round the lovely oak table together for meals. All our requests were responded to very quickly via email and I honestly could not fault one thing. Thank you!"

"We rented both houses for 8x Adults and 7x Children for the weekend. The accommodation is stunning and very comfortable for that many people. Clean and tidy with some lovely little touches. The team are helpful and go out of their way to help. The recommendations for pubs nearby to eat are great, we had a great pizza at the Firehouse nearby. I highly recommend this house and the team that run it. Thanks again."
