Get together at Atherstone Farmhouse, a lovingly renovated 17th century farmhouse in the heart of Somerset countryside.

Sleeping ten in four bedrooms, our grade II listed farmhouse offers a charming and comfortable bolthole for families and groups of friends. Beautifully refurbished to the highest standard, the farmhouse retains its original character with its thatched roof, stone floors, ancient oak beams and a wood-burning stove set into a huge fireplace. Or champion the new wooden hot tub in the garden!

Atherstone Farmhouse benefits from an impressive open plan kitchen/dining room seating ten. There is a separate utility with washing facilities too. With a spacious living room with a wood-burning stove, large flatscreen TV and comfy sofas, there’s plenty of room for everyone to relax and dine together.

The farmhouse has four en suite bedrooms, one of which is on the ground floor for easy access.

Atherstone Farmhouse has a large private garden with an inviting wood fired hot tub plus outdoor furniture and a barbecue for al fresco dining.

Its rural location makes Atherstone Farmhouse a great escape for those looking for a countryside bolthole. There are plenty of pubs to walk or cycle to, things to see and do and convenient shopping in Ilminster nearby.

Surrounded by fields and woods that are accessible on foot and bicycle through the myriad of local country lanes and footpaths, bikes can be hired locally and dropped off at the farmhouse.

Nearby there are several pubs, some within walking distance – like the Barrington Boar – others a little further, but worth cycling or driving to, such as the Dinnington Docks or Lord Poulett Arms.

Barrington House, a National Trust house with gardens open to the public, is nearby, as is Dillington House. The Dennis Chinaworks in Shepton Beauchamp are also very close and worth a visit, for the tea rooms as much as anything else.

There are several local cider producers whose orchards and presses are worth seeing, Perry’s Cider in Dowlish Wake being one, and Julian Temperley’s cider and cider brandy distillery over at Burrow Hill another.

A little further away the beach at Lyme Regis and walks along the Jurassic coastline are 40 minutes or so to the south, and the Hauser and Wirth gallery near Bruton is 40 minutes or so to the east.

Atherstone Farmhouse can be rented with Atherstone Farm Cottage next door (sleeps 4). The interconnecting corridor can be opened between the two to create a larger six bedroom property, Atherstone Farmhouse & Cottage (sleeps 14).

"Spotlessly clean, spacious rooms with everything you can possible need provided. Wifi didnt work for us, but it is situated in a fairly remote area. We were happy to spend all our time at the house - we were only booked for a long weekend - so cannot comment on local amenities. Our grandchildren loved the garden and the hot tub."

2020-01-10 Emily, England

"This idyllic cottage is like something out of a magazine. Each bedroom and en-suite is divine and all 6 of us slept like a dream in the gorgeous beds made of the finest linen. The hot tub was a wonderful extra and we thoroughly enjoyed the log burners in the evenings. We could not recommend this house enough!"

2019-10-20 Louise, Portsmouth
