If you're casting around for somewhere new to fish, and to celebrate National Fishing Month (24 July To 30 August 2021), here are some wonderful holiday cottages to inspire your next angling staycation.

These fishing holiday cottages either have streams or lakes on their grounds with exclusive fishing for guests, or are located close to well-stocked lakes and rivers. Our coastal cottages offer great opportunities for fishing both from the shore or via a sea boat excursion.

As the open fishing season gets underway you can enjoy fishing at a private lake, nestled on a 500 acre country estate amid the tranquil beauty of the Colne Valley. The two-acre manmade lake at Wakes Hall Lodges, Essex, is well stocked with carp and rudd and has plenty of places for keen fishermen to set up their tackle. When the fishing day is over you can unwind at your 5 AA star eco-lodge, just metres from the lake, in your own bubbling hot tub, enjoy the long summer evenings and appreciate the breath taking scenery. To fish on the private lake at the lodges you need to have a fishing licence and to bring your own fishing equipment.

Our eight farm cottages are situated in one of finest river fishing locations in the British Isles, with jumbo sewin, brown trout and salmon prominent in catches. Many sea anglers make this corner of the UK their regular holiday destination, fishing the glorious Gower coastline as well as Swansea Bay itself. For coarse fishing enthusiasts, a local highlight is White Springs Fishery, home to some 17 species of coarse fish in specimen proportions. You can get in touch with the excellent local fishing tackle shop HR Jones Angling Supplies who can give advice on local fishing opportunities, necessary permits and offer special rates on fishing equipment for guests. Alternatively, the local guide and tutor, Kim Tribe, a former Welsh Rivers Champion, can pick you up from your cottage.

Head down to the Tackle Den near South Cerney (Lake 11) for friendly advice, bait and other equipment. Our lovingly restored 17th-century barn is situated on a working arable farm in Herefordshire, rich in indigenous wildlife and boasting fabulous unspoilt countryside views. The hospitable owners invite you to explore the farm and bring your own fishing equipment to relax on the banks of the idyllically situated private carp fishing lake. The surroundings offer many more opportunities for fishing with the rivers Wye and Teme and their tributaries containing an abundance of fish species, including chub, barbel, roach, trout, grayling and pike. All waters are very wild and lightly fished, and there are also plenty of local still water pools and fisheries at which day tickets can be bought, including Docklow Pools under 2 miles away.

Surrounded by well stocked lakes and rivers in the Eden Valley and Lake District, our Cumbria Estate properties are all within prime fishing territory, with exceptional salmon, sea trout, trout and coarse fishing all close by. The River Eden at its heart is considered one of the best salmon rivers in England with different stretches controlled by different angling associations. Penrith Anglers Association (Coarse & Game) controls just over 40 miles of riverbank fly fishing on the rivers Eden, Eamont, Lowther, Petteril, Lyvennet, Leith, Dacre Beck and Trout Beck. The fishing here is mostly brown trout & grayling but there are also some salmon and visitors can purchase a daily or weekly ticket for more than 20 locations. Further fishing include Whins Pond (Coarse) near Penrith, a peaceful scenic lake encompassing about eight acres, stocked with tench, bream, carp and roach, and Blencarn Rainbow Trout Fishing Lake (Fly), a 15 acre lake near Skirwith. Glyn Freeman at Cumbria Fly Fishing can provide tuition to our guests.

Our unique off grid glamping site just outside Newquay is dotted with twelve luxurious, spacious Mongolian-inspired Yurts overlooking the stunning Porth Reservoir. Glampers here have unique access to a 62 acre historic Estate and can also walk down to the reservoir for fishing and bird watching (it’s a designated bird sanctuary). Coarse fishing at Porth Reservoir is open to everyone. The reservoir contains carp to 34lb and is home to some stunning fish such as ‘Arnie’ which is a very sought after mirror regularly caught over 30lbs. Porth currently has approximately six fish over 30lbs and there is a great head of back up 20’s with the majority of fish over 25lbs. There are bream, rudd, roach plus pike and perch. There is also a small number of tench but they are elusive.
