There’s plenty of space to lounge around both indoors and out. Choose from chilling in The Barn, with its billiard room with pool table, library, and very own cinema and sauna. A cosy little wonderland where you can really shut yourself off from the outside world. Or explore the two acres of landscaped grounds, equipped with a plethora of outdoor games, private decked sitting areas, a barbecue and a beautifully warm outdoor pool, heated between May and September. Your kids will hardly be able to tear themselves away!

Walk from Whitstable to Tankerton

If you do manage to prise your family away from the on-site facilities at our 5 Star Kent holiday cottage, there are some great local walks, especially along the country footpaths along the Swale and up into the North Kent Downs. Nearby Faversham provides oodles of walking opportunities, including the Two Creeks Walk. With more than it’s fair share of nature reserves too, your pooch and its ‘pack’ will be spoilt for choice. Discover Cromer’s Wood, The Blean and Oare Gunpowder Works Country Park for starters. Or take in the colourful beach huts and cliff-top lawns of Tankerton slopes in Whitstable.

The family attractions

There are an abundance of fun, exciting and very different days out for children and families staying at our 5 Star Kent holiday cottage. Discover the wonderful 80 acres of maritime heritage that is The Historic Dockyard Chatham. This award-winning attraction is home to a remarkable range of museum galleries, iconic buildings and historic warships, together with an excellent programme of family activities, outstanding exhibitions and events throughout the year.

Alternatively, take a grand tour of Victorian England at Dickens World’s assortment of attractions, guaranteed to keep the whole family entertained.

For animal fun, meet the wildlife at Wildwood, Wingham Wildlife Park and Howletts Wild Animal Park, all offering great days out in Kent with the entire family. Or check out the steam trains and woodland walk at the Bredgar & Wormshill Light Railway and explore Bedgebury’s National Pinetum.

The outdoor adventure

This is a county in which to relax or be as active as you please. Whether your passion’s adventure sports, horse riding, golf or shooting, you’ll find it nearby. The kids can let off some steam at the Go Ape tree top adventure centres at Leeds Castle (boasting a 250m long zip wire), and Bedgebury Forest, also home to the best children’s adventure play trail and excellent bike trails. Or go karting crazy at Bayford Meadows Kart Circuit in Sittingbourne, one of the country’s premier outdoor floodlit karting circuits, and Buckmore Park near Chatham. Own a pony for a day at Whiteleaf Stables or head to Sittingbourne & Milton Regis Golf Club for great golf, five miles away.

Perhaps plan your stay at our 5 Star Kent holiday cottage to coincide with one of the county's colourful festivals. From art to food, sport to history, there’s something for everyone. Art lovers can indulge in two weeks of cultural entertainment at the Canterbury Festival, Kent’s International Arts Festival. Foodies should head for Whitstable’s Oyster Festival, the Apple and Cherry Festivals at Brogdale and the annual food and drink festivals at Leeds Castle and Canterbury. Vintage vehicle fans should head to the Festival of Steam and Transport, Faversham Transport Weekend or Motors by the Moat.

The houses, castles & gardens

It’s no wonder Kent is renowned as ‘The Garden of England’, with glorious gardens to suit every taste and mood. Don’t miss the majestic Leeds Castle, only 10 miles away and justifiably coined ‘The Loveliest Castle in the World’. With year round events, it’s the perfect destination for a great family day out.

There are wonderful houses and gardens within eight miles of our 5 Star Kent holiday cottage. Doddington Place Gardens boasts over ten acres of lovely landscaped gardens and a fabulous woodland walk; or spend ‘time’ at the magnificent neo-classical Belmont House & Gardens and explore the finest private collection of clocks in Britain!

Not to mention Sissinghurst Castle Gardens, Knole, Bodiam Castle and the former home of Winston Churchill at Chartwell, all within easy reach.

The towns & cities

There are so many interesting and beautiful towns near our 5 Star Kent holiday cottage. Our particular must-sees are: Faversham, one of England’s most charming and historic market towns and home to Britain’s oldest brewery ‘Shepherd Neame’; Rochester, home to England’s second oldest Cathedral. Its castle boasts the tallest Norman keep in England and is well worth the climb for its excellent views over the Medway; fall in love too with Whitstable’s traditional charms, strong arts culture and rich maritime history.

Canterbury is a city steeped in history and rich in visitor attractions. Don’t miss the UNESCO World Heritage Site trio; the magnificent Canterbury Cathedral, the oldest in England; the ancient ruins of St Augustine’s Abbey; and St Martin’s Church. Other ancient ruins such as the Castle are reminders of the city’s history, heritage and culture.

There are a number of interesting museums including the fascinating Roman Museum, The Beaney House of Art & Knowledge, The Canterbury Tales, The Kent Museum of Freemasonry and Canterbury Heritage Museum, home to Britain’s beloved cartoon characters including Bagpuss!

Take in the town on a guided walk or experience the city’s beauty and history on a wonderful river trip by boat or punt with Canterbury Historic River Tours.

Enjoy some retail therapy in the quaint shops, explore the cobbled streets of the old town and experience the fantastic eateries which will keep you fed and watered as you explore.
