The Cheltenham Festival coincides with St Patrick’s Day, making the festival popular amongst Irish visitors. With an action-packed schedule comprising the Cheltenham Gold Cup, the Champion Hurdle, the Queen Mother Champion Chase and the World Hurdle, The Festival™ has been around for years and is extremely popular with people from all walks of life. Hundreds of millions of pounds are bet over the four days and the racers themselves go head-to-head for prize money worth a combined total of £4.1 million, second only to the Grand National.

Day tickets for the festival start at £40. The first day of The Festival is Champion Day on Tuesday 14th March, featuring the most important hurdle race of the season, the Stan James Champion Hurdle. This is followed by Ladies Day on Wednesday 15th, including the ‘Colour Me March’ Best Dressed Lady Competition and the Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase. Then St Patrick’s Thursday includes the two big races; the Ladbrokes World Hurdle and the Ryanair Chase.

Gold Cup Day 2017 is on Friday 17th March, when one of the biggest jump races of the season, the Timico Gold Cup takes place. Leading jockeys race the finest horses around the three-mile, two-and-a-half-furlong course, negotiating a total of 22 jumps. In 2016 it was won in style by the Gordon Elliott trained 9/4f Don Cossack ridden by Bryan Cooper.
