This gorgeous, open-plan New England-style lodge on the shores of Spring Lake has three bedrooms, an over-the-water sundeck and a large children’s play area within 50 metres. West Hollowcombe Farm Cottages, Exmoor National Park – sleep 4/6

Perfect for animal-loving families, this cluster of four stone barns on the southern edge of Exmoor National Park has on-site stabling and welcomes pets. In the heart of Exmoor’s Lorna Doone country with unhindered access to wildlife from the gate, guests can tune in to the sound of a wide variety of moorland birds, and spot hares, rabbits, stoats and weasels, to say nothing of majestic red deer. Additionally free-roaming Exmoor ponies are often to be seen grazing nearby. Guests have access to sixty acres of the owner’s fields and woodlands, part of which has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest, an ideal spot for many rare plants and wildlife, especially the Heath Fritillary, one of the rarest butterflies in this country.
