12 Reasons to love a UK Winter Break

We all know that a UK winter break offers its share of challenges. However if you go for the right reasons you will have an unforgettable time. Here are 12 great reasons why we think you should pack your waterproofs and hit the road towards one of our cosy boltholes.

1. Peace – A UK winter break is the perfect opportunity to lift your spirits after the stresses of Christmas and a great cure for the inevitable January blues.

2. Sitting by the fire – The wonderful feeling of warming yourself by a roaring fire, while enjoying a good book, board game or excellent company and a glass or two. Most of our cottages have open fires or wood burners and it’s only on an autumn or winter break that you can really enjoy them.

3. The extras – Our cottage owners provide great attention to detail with lots of lovely touches to make your stay special, including a most wonderful welcome hamper. Many of our properties offer great facilities such as relaxing hot tubs, indoor swimming pools, gyms, spas or a visiting beauty therapy service. Perfect for a UK winter break AND to help you put those New Year’s resolutions into action!

4. Bargains – A UK winter break can be up to 50% less than in July and August and we are constantly updating our special offers. Winter can be a particularly great time for getting your loved ones together in one of our large cottages. Or treat yourself to somewhere really luxurious which might be just out of your price range in the summer months! Why wait? Most of our cottages offer short and mid week winter breaks.

5. The weather – Alfred Wainwright, one of our most famous walkers, once said “There’s no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes”. So grab those wellies, a waterproof and some warm jumpers and enjoy our wonderful outdoors on a UK winter break. The light is amazing with clearer skies, a low-lying sun and undiscovered views unveiled through skeletal trees. So beautiful to witness that you’ll want to invest in that waterproof casing for the camera before you go!

6. Pace – It’s so much easier to get to places and into places on a UK winter break! You won’t need to worry about traffic jams as you travel to your chosen cottage. There are fewer queues for attractions, many of which offer ‘out of season’ reduced rates.

UK Winter break: Dog playing fetch on beach

7. The dog – If you’re looking to treat your four-legged friend too, then a UK winter break at one of our dog-friendly cottages is perfect. With summer restrictions lifted on beaches, they can play ‘fetch’ till the cows come home and also enjoy lots of crispy countryside walks.

8. The romance – Let’s face it, a lot of these wintry factors combine to make the kind of romantic break just not possible in the summer months. Snuggle up in one of our romantic getaways on a UK winter break, far away from the outside world and let the stresses of Christmas melt away…

9. The coast – Head to the coast and it’s likely to be just you! The coast takes on a distinctly different feel in the winter, so blow away the cobwebs with enjoy amazing beach and coastal walks on a UK winter break at one of our holiday cottages near a beach.

10. Festive cities – If you choose your UK winter break near one of our fine festive cities, the winter period sees the best in theatrical productions (including great pantos for the kids). Or why not grab a bargain in the January sales?

11. The little’uns – If you’ve got mini-yous to entertain, a UK winter break can be an amazing way to teach them about the different seasons and create some fantastic memories for them. Take a look at our great selection of family friendly cottages.

12. The activities – There are some great activities which are exclusive to a UK winter break - such as ice skating and sledding. Wherever you book, you can try your hand at a new activity such as horse riding or fishing – they’re all listed in our “Things to Do & Events” section for each property.
